Kidlington 2 v 2
Pegasus Juniors

Pegasus Juniors were
cruelly denied a
deserved final away
victory of the
season in the FTL
FUTBOL Hellenic
League Premier
Division, with a
deflected last
minute goal at
Yarnton Road,
Kidlington. The
visitors matched and
outplayed the home
team for much of the
game, however, the
failure to seize
upon their goal
scoring
opportunities cost
them dearly. A goal
for each side in the
first half was
repeated in the
second as the home
side were fortunate
to gain parity at
the final whistle.
The visitors were
first into their
stride as they went
close to scoring
with speculative
shot from Cory Hyde
and Chris Mortlock
testing the home
keeper. The first
flowing move of the
game was started by
Man of the Match
Anthony Robbins, his
raking pass found
Ben Price, the
winger crossed the
ball first time
where Mortlock
crashed the ball
into the side
netting from a tight
angle.
Captain Danny Price
won the ball in the
centre circle,
unchallenged he was
allowed to move
forward, he passed
to Simon Gwynne who
with a defence
splitting pass
allowed Hyde to
force a fine save
grom Tom McNamara at
the foot of the
post.
In the thirty fifth
minute Kidlington
took the lead
against the run of
play when Mark Smith
slipped allowing Jim
Deabill to get a
pass to Mark Baker
who scored with a
low shot.
Despite the set back
the “Peggy Boys”
continued to
dominate with the
equaliser coming
three minutes later
came as little
surprise. Mortlock
won the ball on the
half way line he
slipped it to the
influential Robbins
who played the ball
into space behind
the full back where
Ben Price hit a
measured cross to
pick out Hyde who
was able to tap in
from close range.
H|T 1 – 1
The second half
continued in a
similar vein and the
home side nearly
gained the advantage
when Deabill forced
his way into the
penalty area but was
denied by a fine
save by Liam Brewer.
In the sixty second
minute, the visitors
gained their just
desert when a weak
cross was caught by
Brewer and rolled
the ball to Mike
Symonds. He chipped
the ball over the
home defence into
the path of Mortlock,
however the pass was
over hit but,
McNamara missed his
kick leaving the
striker the simple
task of rolling the
ball into the net
from eighteen yards.
Pegasus controlled
the game until
stoppage time when
the home team
pressed for an
equaliser, but were
not seriously
threatened. In the
final minute, the
defence shut out
another home attack
and with Adam
Lovegrove running
along the eighteen
yard he tried a
speculative shot
that deflected of
the shin of Smith
and looped over the
head of Brewer for
an unlikely goal.
There was not enough
time after the
restart for the
Hereford side to
reply, definitely
this was points
dropped by Pegasus
but, before the game
the management would
have settled for a
draw!

Pegasus Juniors 4 v
0 Abingdon Town

Pegasus Juniors
entertained Abingdon
Town in the FTL
FUTBOL Hellenic
League Premier
Division and after a
scintillating first
half performance
inflicted upon their
Oxfordshire
opponents the
heaviest away defeat
of the season, at
Old School Lane,
Hereford. Four goals
inside forty minutes
secured the points
for the Hereford
based team who
clearly produced
their best
performance since
the turn of the
year.
It took the home
team seventeen
minutes of pressure
to break down the
Abbots defence,
Chris Mortlock beat
the full back, he
pulled the ball to
Ryan Daw on the
corner of the
penalty box who was
able to cross the
ball to the far post
where Anthony
Robbins ghosting in
scored with a
thumping header.
Ten minutes later
Mortlock was again
the instigator, when
as the “chaser of
lost causes” he won
the chase of the
ball to the corner
flag, he again beat
the full back and
rode two stiff
tackles, he pulled
the ball back to
Keith Jones whose
shot was blocked and
the rebound was met
by Jamie Cuss who
picked his spot with
a shot from eighteen
yards that easily
beat Gareth Walker
in the visiting
goal.
Five minutes later,
Jones and Daw
combined and the
latter picked out
Simon Gwynne on the
left side of the
attack, he cut
inside his marker
before curling a
shot into the top
corner of the goal.
The visitors were
somewhat dejected
and eight minutes
before the break
they fell further
behind when Jones
beat his marker, his
driven cross was met
at the near post by
Mortlock who was
able to guide the
ball past Walker.
H|T 4 – 0
The second half
onslaught failed to
materialise as the
home defence was
solid allowing Cuss
and Robbins to
dominate midfield
but, the visitors
were more resilient
after the half team
talk. A diagonal
pass from Robbins
was again chased
down by Mortlock his
inch perfect cross
was met by Daw but
he was unable to
find the target.
With a quarter of an
hour remaining a
pass from Gwynne
found Mortlock but
Walker diving low
down to his right
was able to parry
the ball for a
corner kick. Dan
Price won the
heading dual but the
ball hit the goal
post.
In the dying minutes
the home defence was
caught napping as
Alex Mott raced
between defenders
but his shot was
saved by Liam
Brewer.

Pegasus Juniors 6 v
2 Marlow United

Pegasus Juniors
entertained Marlow
United in a FTL
FUTBOL Hellenic
League Premier
Division fixture at
Old School Lane,
Hereford, still
smarting from the
disappointing
performance at Wilks
Park three weeks ago
when they only
managed a draw.
The hosts took the
lead in the second
minute when a Marlow
defender left the
ball expecting it to
run out for a goal
kick, however, he
did not anticipate
“the chaser of lost
causes” Chris
Mortlock to get to
the ball before it
crossed the goal
line. The striker
turned inside before
crossing to Richard
Harrison, who was in
front of goalkeeper
John Bullar and he
had the simple task
of side footing the
ball into the net.
Ten minutes later,
the visitors were on
level terms when
they were awarded a
free kick on the
corner of the
penalty area. A
sweet left foot shot
from Wayne Murphy
beat Liam Brewer at
his near post.
A quick riposte by
Pegasus almost paid
dividends when on
the counter Mortlock
found Harrison but,
his header was a
shade too high. On
the half hour the
same combination
caused problems for
the visitors but the
header looped over
the crossbar.
Five minutes later
Mortlock and
Harrison combined to
enable Jamie Cuss to
guide the ball past
Bullar.
With four minutes of
the first half
remaining Pegasus
doubled the
advantage following
some good work by
Anthony Robbins
where he turned his
marker before
crossing the ball
under the crossbar,
Bullar under
pressure from
Harrison punched
weakly allowing
Mortlock to pick his
spot.
H|T 3 – 1
The sound of the
whistle of the
referee had hardly
dissipated before
Marlow had reduced
the deficit.
Assistant Manager
Gary Wiltshire
forced his way past
Danny Price before
unleashing a shot
past Brewer.
Shortly afterwards
Andy Mowen set
Harrison free down
the right flank his
cross was met by the
head of Mortlock who
guided the ball goal
bound only to hit
the legs of Bullar.
In the sixty fourth
minute the
persistence of Cuss
was rewarded with a
corner kick, this
was taken by Robbins
and met by the head
of an unchallenged
Mortlock.
With nine minutes
remaining, a kick
from hand by Brewer
was met by the head
of Mortlock who
guided the ball out
to Harrison on the
right, his cross was
met by the head of
Ryan Daw who scored
at the near
goalpost.
A defensive
clearance was headed
by Mortlock into the
path of Harrison who
after out pacing his
marker calmly rolled
the ball past the
visiting goalkeeper.
This was a
comprehensive
victory but, Pegasus
Juniors will have to
play much better in
the next fixture
when they entertain
league leaders
Almondsbury Town on
Thursday night at
Old School Lane,
Hereford.

Pegasus Juniors 2 v
1 Fairford Town

Pegasus Juniors
entertained Fairford
Town in the FTL
FUTBOL Hellenic
League Premier
Division seeking to
complete the double
over their
Gloucestershire
opponents after a
victory in December,
at Cinder Lane,
Fairford.
Pegasus started
brightly and should
have scored in the
seventh minute when
Simon Gwynne jinked
past his marker, his
cross was met by
Jamie Cuss on the
six yard line, his
first time guided
shot bounced clear
off the foot of
goalkeeper Jamie
Morse and was
cleared to safety.
The home side held
the upper hand but,
were unable to
convert the
advantage into
goals. In the twenty
eighth the visitors
surprisingly took
the lead when a free
kick was headed past
Liam Brewer by Ian
Probert.
Two minutes later
the home side had
the opportunity to
draw level when Dan
Price at the back
post failed to
connect with an
Anthony Robbins free
kick. On the stroke
of half time Chris
Mortlock burst
through defenders
but his shot was
somehow block and
cleared.
H|T 0 – 1
Soon after the
restart Robbins
supplied a perfect
defence splitting
ball to enable Cuss
to beat the offside
trap, his cross was
deflected to
Mortlock who placed
his shot only for
Morse to push the
ball onto the
goalpost.
In the fifty third
minute, the home
side gained parity
when the visiting
defence got
themselves into a
tangle. Robbins
floated his free
kick into the
penalty area, Morse
came to collect the
ball but a defender
headed the ball up
in the air. Ben
Price bravely won
the contest to head
the ball into the
goal, but was
injured in the
process.
In the eighty third
minute, Mortlock who
after the
substitution of
Price was moved to
lead the attack
scored from a narrow
angle to secure the
points, this ended a
run of ten games
without scoring for
the leading goal
scorer.

Pegasus Juniors 1 v
2 Kidlington

Pegasus Juniors entertained
Kidlington in the FTL FUTBOL
Hellenic League Premier
Division seeking to stem a
run of three draws with a
victory over their
Oxfordshire opponents,
however, after taking the
lead four minutes before the
break the visitors scored
twice in the second period
to inflict another defeat on
the Hereford based team.
The visitors served notice
of their intentions inside
the first ten minutes when
Chris Weedon skipped past
Mark Davies before shooting
across the face of goal.
Minutes later, the home side
had a great opportunity when
a cross from Simon Gwynne
was met by the head of Ben
Price only to rebound off
the defender on the goal
line. Pegasus maintained the
pressure and had reasonable
scoring opportunities for
Gwynne, Price and Chris
Mortlock. Jamie Cuss made a
terrific break through the
visiting defence before
finding Ryan Dawe who shot
straight at the keeper Tom
McNamara. Kidlington replied
with a shot on the turn by
substitute Andy White.
Pegasus broke the deadlock
with four minutes of the
half remaining, a cross
under the crossbar from
Price caused the visiting
goal minder a problem, he
tried to push the ball over
the bar but only succeeded
in pushing it on the bar.
Simon Gwynne was first to
react and guided the ball
past McNamara.
H|T 1 – 0
On the hour mark, the
Pegasus defence was caught
out of position and Cuss
attempting to cover was
adjudged to fouled White
inside the penalty area.
Danny Leggett converted the
spot kick.
Understandably, this gave
the visitors much needed
confidence and only a fine
stop minutes later by Liam
Brewer prevented a second
goal.
Pegasus replaced Dawe with
Keith Jones who soon was in
the thick of the action
forcing a corner kick which
a defender cleared off the
goal line from a Price
header. Mortlock had a shot
blocked by the legs of the
keeper after he controlled
the ball with his chest
before volleying the ball.
With a quarter of an hour
remaining, the home side
thought they had scored when
Jones met a cross from Price
with his head and somehow
McNamara got fingertips to
the ball to deflect it onto
the goal post. The ball
rebounded into his arms with
Gwynne closing in.
The home side continued to
dominate but were caught on
the break. Davies missed a
headed clearance and Weedon
crossed the ball from the
bye line. Brewer saved well
from Mark Brewer but White
was on hand to tap the ball
into the net.

Saturday 13th March, 2010
Abingdon Town 0 v 0 Pegasus
Juniors

Pegasus Juniors travelled to seeking
to stem a run of five games without
a point against a good Abingdon Town
who were one position higher than
the Hereford side in the FTL FUTBOL
Hellenic League Premier Division.
The pitch appeared to be in an ideal
condition but the appearance belied
the truth. It was moist and spongy
making it difficult to keep a
foothold, the ball did not run very
well on the surface and there was a
very low bounce.
This was an entertaining game devoid
of any serious shot on either goal
and twenty one minutes had elapsed
before Simon Gwynne shot straight at
the home keeper. The best move of
the half came following a gaol kick
that Chris Mortlock crossed to far
goal post and Anthony Robbins missed
the target with a header from twelve
yards as he was running at full
tilt.
H|T 0 – 0
A typical Robbins diagonal pass
found substitute Keith Jones who out
paced the home defence the low cross
from the former Wellington player
was met by Gwynne at full stretch
but he guided the ball inches wide
of the far goal post.
The home side had a golden chance to
open the scoring when a clearance by
Andy Mowen cannoned against Mark
Davies and ballooned to Liam Barson
who blazed the ball over the
crossbar from ten yards.
Jones again outpaced the home
defence before finding new
acquisition from Wellington Ryan Daw
who shot at the home keeper from the
edge of the penalty area.

Oxford City Nomads 3 v 0
Pegasus Juniors

Pegasus Juniors travelled to Court
Place Farm Stadium, Marsh Lane,
Oxford, and the home of Zamaretto
League side Oxford City, where they
played Nomads in the FTL FUTBOL
Hellenic League Premier Division.
The visitors produced their best
team performance since the enforced
mid winter break but a combination
of wayward finishing, good
goalkeeping and the frame of the
goal allowed the home side to gain a
victory and a score line that did
not reflect the true state of the
game.
The home side were the first to
create a goal scoring opportunity
when a shot from Ian Roper was saved
by Stuart Turpin. In the ninth
minute Jamie Cuss skipped round a
defender but shot into the side
netting when a pass to the unmarked
Cory Hyde might well have been more
beneficial.
The pace of Matt Blenford caused the
visitors some consternation but his
efforts only resulted in three
corner kicks. The Redmen were forced
at times to quite to defend in depth
but, they were always a threat on
the counter attack with Ben Price a
constant hazard. In the twenty third
minute the visitors forced corner
kick situation when Chris Mortlock
crossed the ball from the left, a
defender blocked the shot from Hyde.
The same player took the corner
kick, a well timed run and leap by
Ben Price headed the ball goal bound
but, full back Lewis Colwell managed
to hook the ball out from under the
crossbar.
In the thirty sixth minute Nomads
took the lead following a
controversial penalty decision.
Daniel Jones swung the ball in from
a corner kick, the referee adjudged
Turpin pushed an attacker as he
caught the ball. Jones took the kick
from the twelve yards spot, Turpin
almost made amends when he got his
left hand to the ball but could not
keep it from the net.
H | T 1-0
After the break, the “Peggy Boys”
took the game to the opposition and
the home keeper Milan Barisic was
forced to make a flying save to deny
Mortlock. Hyde beat the offside trap
to receive a pass from Richard
Harrison but he shot wide of the
goal. Ben Price prepared to shoot
when inside the penalty area but was
dispossessed by a good tackle from a
defender. Anthony Robbins in his
first game after suspension was a
constant thorn in the side of Nomads
with his tenacity in midfield and
clever distribution of the ball. A
cleared Price cross fell to Robbins
who was unfortunate when his shot
skimmed off the top of the crossbar.
Mortlock collected a long pass from
Cuss and forced his way to the goal
line but, no one was able to make
contact with his cross.
In the thirteenth minute of the half
the home side took play into the
Pegasus penalty area for the first
time in the second period when a
shot from Blenford beat Turpin but
the ball rebounded to a defender off
the goal post.
On the hour mark a counter attack by
the home side saw a long pass reach
Jemaine Ferreira who under pressure
was able to slide a pass to
substitute Jamie Brooks who beat the
defence to the ball and stroke it
past Turpin.
Undeterred Pegasus continued to take
the game to the opposition with Cuss
surging forward he went close to
scoring with a shot from a weak
clearance that flashed past a post.
Mortlock was unlucky with a fine
shot on the run that dipped late and
crashed against the crossbar.
A series of corners caused
difficulties for the home team who
now looked vulnerable. Barisic made
a great leap to punch clear from
one, whilst a defender scrambled
another into touch; and the ball
emerged from a goalmouth melee to
somehow trickle the wrong side of
the upright.
In stoppage time Mortlock beat
Barisic but his shot was inches past
the goal. From the goal kick the
visitors gained possession in the
centre circle and Brooks netted a
third for Nomads off far post.
The score line flattered the home
side consisting of mainly of City
academy players but, they held on
and gained revenge for a defeat at
Old School Lane earlier in the
season.

Pegasus
Juniors 1 v 2 Old Woodstock Town

Pegasus Juniors entertained Old
Woodstock Town in the FTL FUTBOL
Hellenic League Premier Division at
Old School Lane, Hereford.
This was a poor game with few goal
scoring opportunities created by
either team and neither keeper was
forced to make anything but
regulation saves. Both sides had one
opportunity in the first half with
Jamie Cuss heading over from ten
yards and Rhys Denton did likewise
for the visitors. Cory Hyde managed
to put the ball into the net from an
off side position.
H|T 0 – 0
Two minutes after the break Cuss
forced visiting keeper into action
as he dived to his left to push the
ball around the base of the upright.
On the hour mark Denton and Luke
Ingram combined and Ingram shot wide
when under pressure from Dan Price.
Two minutes later, the visitors took
the lead. They took a free kick that
Stuart Turpin was unable to hold,
the ball rebounded to Denton who
drove the ball into the net.
Shortly afterwards the home side
were awarded a free kick the header
by Chris Mortlock was cleared and a
goal bound shot from Ben Price was
deflected for a corner kick.
Pegasus were caught on the counter
attack as they were chasing the game
when Lewis Gabbidon crossed the ball
from the right to Denton who slipped
the ball to Ingram who curled the
ball past Turpin.
In stoppage time Pegasus gained a
consolation goal when Ben Price
scored a fine individual goal, he
gained possession on the half way
line he cut inside beating two
visiting defenders before unleashing
a shot into the top corner of the
goal from twenty yards.

Flackwell Heath 2 v 1 Pegasus
Juniors

Pegasus Juniors travelled to High
Wycombe where they played Flackwell
Heath in the FTL FUTBOL Hellenic
League Premier Division, on a sodden
pitch at Wilks Park. The visitors
with a decimated side were able to
produce a performance with grit and
determination but were unable to
find the equalising goal after
conceding a goal in each half.
Manager Steve Griffiths gave Shane
Cuss and Lee Marlow their first
start following promising substitute
appearance and both acquitted
themselves well. This was a game
were goal scoring opportunities were
at a premium and the first on target
shot came in the thirty third minute
when a run by Adam Paget forced an
outstanding save by the visitors
gloveman Stuart Turin flying to his
right. From the resultant corner
kick Lee Thompson poked the ball
into the net from close range during
a goal line scramble.
H|T 1 – 0
Nine minutes into the second period
Stuart MacLellan got free on the
right and from a low cross Thompson
guided the ball into the net.
This seemed to be a “wake up call”
for the visitors who increased the
tempo and gained the upper hand.
Richard Harrison set Simon Gwynne
free he muscled his way between two
defenders before laying the ball
into the path of Chris Mortlock, who
at full stretch was only able to
push the ball past the far goal
post.
In the eighty eighth minute The
Heathens cleared a corner kick to
Richard Harrison who played the ball
to Gwynne who with his back to goal
controlled the ball with one fine
movement between his legs into the
net.
The visitors gave the home fans an
anxious last few minutes as they
searched for the equalising goal.

Pegasus Juniors 6 v 1 Hook Norton

Pegasus Juniors entertained Hook
Norton at Old School Lane, Hereford,
in the FTL FUTBOL Hellenic League
Premier Division seeking to produce
a better performance than in the
reverse game in December when they
salvaged a point from an injury time
goal. The host side scored very
early into the game and from then on
were rarely troubled by the
Oxfordshire opponents who are
languishing at the foot of the
table.
The Peggy Boys were boosted by the
return of Mark Smith and Cory Hyde
plus Chris Mortlock who through work
commitments had been unable to meet
the travelling constraints placed
upon him by Zamaretto League side
Stourport Swifts.
It only took Mortlock five minutes
to find his scoring boots when he
latched on to a pass over the
visiting defence from Lee
Ferneyhough; he waited for Joe White
visiting goalkeeper to advance and
he calmly lobbed the ball over his
head from the most acute of angles.
This was his one hundredth (100)
first team goal for the club a
memorable landmark.
In the twenty first minute, Mortlock
forever the chaser of lost causes
chased a half cleared corner kick he
passed to Ben Price who crossed the
ball to the far post where the ball
was headed home by Mark Smith whilst
Ferneyhough claimed it was he who
had the last touch as the ball
crossed the goal line.
A fine diagonal pass from Jamie Cuss
picked out Ben Price on the right
his cross was met by Hyde who shot
straight at White. Cuss and Hyde
exchanged a few minutes later with
Hyde hitting the goal post from
close range.
H|T 2 – 0
After the break, the home side
continued their dominance and
increased the lead in the sixty
seventh minute when Hyde outpaced
the Hooky defence to reach another
probing pass from Cuss before he
fired the ball home.
Four minutes later Pegasus scored a
fourth goal when Hyde was the
beneficiary of good work by Mortlock
who received another probing pass
from man of the match Cuss and
crossed the ball into the penalty
area.
Pegasus scored their fifth goal of
the afternoon when substitute and
debutant Lee Marlow received the
ball wide on the left and with his
first touch sent over a pinpoint
cross to find Ben Price who out
jumped his marker at the far post
and headed the ball past the
helpless White.
Hook Norton gained a consolation
goal when Danny Poole wriggled his
way through three players and rolled
the ball past Stuart Turpin.
With two minutes of normal time
remaining Cuss sent Mortlock clear
of the visiting defence, the ace
striker rounded White inside the
penalty area before he was sent
crashing to the ground by Ashley
Prentice. Mark Smith calmly sent the
goal minder the wrong way before
placing the ball to his left.
Hook Norton should have doubled
their tally when they were awarded a
penalty in stoppage time but, James
Robbins crashed the ball against the
crossbar.
This was the first Pegasus Juniors
win since the enforced mid winter
break and another three points
towards safety but more importantly
the two debutants Marlow and Shane
Cuss impressed the management team.
